Scampagnata 2004

The sun shone brightly and the wind was gentle as we members of the Piemontesi nel Mondo of Northern California gathered to celebrate life, food, and our Piemontese heritage. Our Scampagnata this year took place at the Wild Oak Saddle Club and Polo Field in Santa Rosa on June 27, 2004.

Old friends gathered and some met for the first time. A mix of Italian, Piemontese, and English spiced the air and gave the picnic an essence of bringing the old to the new. Kids and the young at heart jumped aboard a horse-drawn Western stagecoach for a ride around the polo field. The swimming pool was a welcome relief from the heat. Everyone enjoyed either watching or playing bocce. Hula hoops, baseball, and bubbles were a hit with our youngest members. Accordionist, Ron Borelli, serenaded us throughout the afternoon with our favorite Italian melodies. And the food was scrumptious, fresh, and abundant.

So much work went into the preparation of our Scampagnata. We have so many people to thank. Many, many thanks to Chairman Vincent Fausone, Jr. and his family for organizing this terrific event. Henry Trione generously provided the location, wine and other extras. Susan Pricco organized the raffle, which included prizes of Piemontese wine and other goodies. Cendahl Smeland coordinated the children’s activities along with Giovanna Arieta. Many thanks to all the others who were responsible for the success of this great family gathering.

We are looking forward to next year’s picnic. Hope to see you there!!
